Lucas celebrates Thanksgiving

Lucas was very excited about his first major holiday, especially since he heard he was going to be here for Halloween and missed that.   The day started with Lucas putting on his most festive outfit:

He was especially proud of the foot messaging

Since Lucas doesn't get this dolled up every day, he made us take a quick family photo

After a nice snooze on the drive up, we met 30+ Famini-side family and friends.  Amy relaxed her no-holding-before-1-month-old policy for cousin Holly's special Cali appearance

The table of Old Men didn't necessarily approve

After most of the guests took off, but before the improvised play, Lucas took a snooze with his cousin Sparrow.  All in all, a great first Holiday!

At home with the 'rents

Lucas spends a lot of time at home, so he has taken up a few pastimes:

He likes to check his email

Take family naps

He loooooves to take baths

Take more snoozes (or pretend he is in my non-existent womb, not quite sure)

And get stared at by Tank, of course

Is Lucas in a gang?

When our neighbor Risky joined our neighborhood a little while back, there was a rumor that she was going to bring Toddler Gangs to the 'hood with her.  I may have started that rumor, but never-the-less we have been keeping a very keen eye on Lucas to see if he is ensnared in her web.  We will keep an update on the blog.

Hmmmmm, that is a curious gesture that Risky is making with her hand.

Lucas likes Weezer

A Weezer concert was on the HD channel and Lucas really started to boogie

Lucas has some tricks

Well, maybe not the most exciting of tricks, but Lucas likes to do the following quite frequently

First - he yawns!

And second - he sneezes!  I have been trying to get his Famini combo sneezes (rather large, but 3-5 at a time) on camera, but its tough to catch that slick guy.  This is the best run of them.:

A couple of learnings

I learned 2 things today:

1) It is rather hard to walk Lucas in his stroller and Tank on the leash sniffing around for treats while talking on a cell phone.  I need to use the hands free!

2) Diapers are awesome, otherwise Lucas's explosive rear end would have made art on my lap.

Lucas has body parts!

Don't be getting any fresh ideas - this isn't that type of website. However, since we are still holed up in a relatively germ-free food-all-the-time house and you probablu haven't met Lucas, here are some of his highlight parts:

His hair is currently dark (!), with a nice cow-lick front and center:
His eyes have started lightening, we'll see if they get greenish at all or stay blue/grey

His eyes may have slight bags under them, but thats probably due to our waking him up every few hours to eat.

He has very long fingers:

His cord fell off when he was 7 days old - does that look like the makings of an outtie?

And finally, perfect little feet

Lucas opens his mouth

And looks darn cute doing it.

Yes, this is what we do for excitement these days.  Don't be jealous.

The Grandparents

Lucas was lucky enough to be born into a family with 6 grandparents.  He would like you to meet them.

Grandma Catherine (Z-ma) and Grandpa Frank (Z-pa)

Grandpa David and Grandma Melissa (Gra-Meli)

Grandpa Jim and Grandma Karen

Our first outing

We decided to take a walk around the block on Monday - Lucas's first time outside!

He bundled up and snuggled into his carrier that fits babies 4 times his size (crazy he'll grow that much within a year or two)

The whole family enjoyed the fresh air, especially Tank and his big sniffer:

Like a model at the end of a runway, Amy and Lucas struck a pose

As we got close to our destination, the local chihuahua-that-lives-like-a-cat-on-the-streets tried to chase us down.  Luckily, we made it back into the house before he called his rumored gang to the scene.

The day after

We spent Saturday night and Sunday in the mother/child wing of the Walnut Creek Kaiser.
Lucas's first night went smoothly, with nursing help allowed me to sleep for a good stretch on the chair/bed.  He had no idea, but this was another big day for the little guy.

First thing in themorning he had to get a little minor surgery, done behind these blinds.  It went well.

We had a number of visitors, some repeat customers looking for Lucas snuggles (TM) and some first timers.  The snuggles were enjoyed by all.  We watched some football, napped and had photo sessions.

One cool thing that the hospital does is a "Celebration meal" for both of parents, including some real bubbly!

After a checkup (no jaundice!) and a first glimpse of how long it will take to packup and get ready to go places, we made our decent out of the 'burbs towards home.

Our neighbors Julie and Meredith made Lucas feel very welcome (and took care of Tank while we were away) - thanks guys!
